General Medical Care for Students
with UMass Boston Student Health Insurance Plan
\
University Health Services (UHS) is the primary care provider for UMass Boston students with the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP)
If you have the SHIP you must receive your care from UHS. If your UHS health care provider determines that you require medical services that can not be provided at UHS a referral will be made for you. In order for your care to be covered by the SHIP a referral must be obtained PRIOR to accessing medical care outside of UHS. Prior referral is not required in those situations listed here.
General Medicine provides walk in, primary care, women’s health, laboratory services, and limited specialty services on campus. Students who develop an episodic illness or incur an injury may present at the department to receive medical care without an appointment during hours of operation.
In addition, primary preventive care, including a variety of physical examinations as well as women’s health, is offered by appointment. Specialty services include dermatology, orthopedics, endocrinology, and travel medicine. Medical services include an onsite laboratory, which performs a variety of tests as well as coordinates and reports results that require an outside laboratory referral. To schedule an appointment with a medical health care provider please call UHS at 617-287-5680.
